Behind the Scenes interviews about the making of the film, Everest (2015): “This Is as Extreme Filmmaking as It Gets” Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, and director Baltasar Kormakur on how they recreated the 1996 Mount Everest disaster using real mountains, real snow, and one giant freezer.
Between 1921 there have been 11,346 summit ascents by 6,098 people. 310 climbers have died trying to reach the summit.
At 11:30 a.m. on May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, became the first explorers to reach the summit of Mount Everest, which at 29,035 feet above sea level is the highest point on earth.
According to the Nepalese, Tenzing stepped on the mountain first and pulled Hilary. Tenzing’s family have established a foundation. See link for the foundation:
The Environmental impact of the expeditions has had a detrimental effect to the mountain. There has been so much plastic and other non-biodegradable waste that the Sherpa now operate clean-up expeditions on a regular basis.
